Securing the Cermak Corridor After the Big Freeze
After a brutal winter in Berwyn left several construction sites along the Cermak Road Corridor exposed and vulnerable to vandalism, we saw the damage. The freezing rain turned the ground into a muddy mess, making it nearly impossible to secure loose materials. One site near the World's Largest Laundromat sat wide open after a storm knocked down their temporary barrier. We knew if we didn't move fast, those pre-1920 era building materials would vanish overnight.
We dispatched our heavy-duty truck and crew in the middle of a freezing night to get those sites locked down. Our guys worked through the slush, driving steel posts deep into the frozen earth to ensure the chain-link panels wouldn't budge. We used weighted bases to compensate for the soft, muddy ground around the commercial zone. The site stayed secure, and the contractor avoided a massive loss of equipment.
Sal's crew arrived when everyone else was asleep and saved us from a total disaster.
